Each Measure Feature: Seafarers
FEATURE
There’s a lot of heart in “Another State,” the third album from Seafarers, that tackles a lot of relatable themes. As a whole, the album takes listeners through the chaos of early adulthood and onward using every aspect of the music. I loved the concept of each song on the album serving as a vignette, a poetic reflection on the freedom and uncertainty that comes with being an adult. For example, “Bedwetters,” the opening track on the album, finds solace in the little things in life despite the anxieties that come with it. Then comes the titular track, “Another State,” which handles leaving home, new relationships, and existential conflicts. I found the music relaxing, but the lyrics were powerful.
Each track stood out to me for different reasons as I journeyed through the various times and transitions of the album. “Televangelists” connects religion with technology for a deeper, philosophical track with beautiful vocals. We’ve all lost a childhood friend as we get older, which is why most people can relate to “Melissa.” One that I really found a connection with was “Everything I’d Do (to Get a Hold on You),” because of the way it tackles the magnetic pull of a toxic relationship. “Crashing Car” and “Tough Kids” were full of emotion as well, before the album ends with “A Little Loss,” which felt introspective about life’s mysteries. “Another State” has great storytelling and beautiful music that will reach listeners who feel the push and pull of being an adult.
