Each Measure Feature: Robin Mukherjee

FEATURE

Returning with his unique melodies and ambient fingerpicking, Robin Mukherjee is releasing his third album, “Further Ahead.” As a UK-based folk singer, Mukherjee’s known for introspective lyrics and “Further Ahead” doesn’t disappoint as he explores themes of yearning for change. Whether it’s politics, love, overcoming bereavement, or job frustrations, Mukherjee tackles it all across the album. Recorded in Manchester at Limefield Studio, “Further Ahead” brings Ben Cashell on cello and Vincent O’Brien on electric and lap steel guitars, while Robin handles the acoustic guitar, mandolin, percussion, and piano. With diverse influences, from 1960’s folk artists to Radiohead, “Further Ahead” delivers melodic relatability.

Being his third album, Mukherjee shows his evolution as a songwriter on “Further Ahead.” The opening song, “Polling Day,” reflects on discontent with politics, while “Butterflies” is Mukherjee’s first, and possibly last, love song. Inspired by a candid discussion with a friend going through a rough time, the titular track, “Further Ahead” is all about honesty and resilience. Robin continues to deliver deep acoustic performances throughout the London music scene and has played across the globe. For the release of “Further Ahead,” Mukherjee is celebrating with a launch and farewell show at Manchester’s Eagle Inn on July 13, 2024. With an album that feels personal and final, “Further Ahead” takes listeners on a heartfelt journey that they’ll be sure to relate to.
