Each Measure Feature: Nella

FEATURE

Nella was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where she spent her early childhood. Her upbringing was immersed in art, music, dance, and education. She developed a love for music and dance from her parents, who dreamed of getting Nella a quality education, so they set their sights on Los Angeles, California. Her music is an expression of her heart and the diverse cultures she has experienced. Her music is influenced by many genres, including Makossa, Bikutsi, Mbalax, Afrobeats, RnB, and Amapiano. She strives to create a timeless and inclusive sound that brings people together and lightens their world.

Nella's new release,” Jeje," is a beautiful, danceable release speaking of love and freedom from it. The single, which exudes Afrobeats, is seamed with a touch of Pidgin English, something which is rooted in Africa, meaning this track should be accepted not only by Africa but the world at large. This song is layered and has a pure authenticity you look for in a record. Nella states she is gonna do her thing, and it sure feels like she means that to the fullest.

“Jeje,” which can be translated to gentle/softly, speaks of the Cameroonian choice to gently move on from her lover to find peace and thus face her fears in so doing, a fact we can ascertain by citing the lyrics that say “getting comfy with my fears.” The saxophone and instrumentation really stand out as the record continues. The success of her latest release can be tied to the quality of the production and vocal ability. “Jeje” is enjoyable and gives no room for boredom whilst passing a message. The songwriting is impressive and we are excited for what is on the horizon for this talented artist.
