Each Measure Feature: Diego Philips
FEATURE
Belgo-British singer-songwriter Diego Philips has spent the past decade captivating audiences in London with his "honey-coated vocals" and "luscious melodies." Drawing inspiration from icons like Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, Devendra Banhart, and Bob Dylan, Philips crafts songs that blend heartfelt poetry with sincere, soul-stirring sentiments. Storytelling is at the core of Philips' songwriting, with themes of love, healing, and spirituality.
On December 13th, he unveiled his new body of work, an EP with a dreamy title, “I Want to Laugh Until I Cry,” a personal release that feels stripped down and raw. The pleasant tone, filled with emotions, all expressed properly thanks to its unique approach. The EP, which contains just five songs, details the phase of self-healing, highlighting the challenges faced. The title track has a base of beautiful strings that really gets you in your feelings while the accompanying vocal brings you into the window of an intimate emotional point of view.
The emotive EP can be said to be self-reflection and a healing process from his past. The album was beautifully crafted with the best sound from cello, piano, acoustic guitar, and his beautiful vocals telling a great story, giving the EP a top-notch performance. As he said, music is a refuge, a space to bring people together, and true to his words, the EP does validate his statement.
