Each Measure Feature: Dare Wren Smiles

FEATURE

“Portal”: What positive thing can one say about Dare Wren Smiles’ album that will be considered out of place? None. And what negative thing would one say about this album that would be factually correct? None. That's how good the album “Portal” is, which is a collection of twenty-four of their works, all of which are impressive and encompass different genres, including but not limited to indie and alt.

While streaming songs on Spotify, I stumbled upon Dare’s track titled “The Moon,” an indie song that features Hoélune & Isaac Kwiatkowski, which caught my attention, causing me to explore the album for other tracks on it. “The Moon,” in particular, has to be hailed for its bright texture, which gives a mood-lifting theme thanks to hands clapping sounds, a nice play of a chordophone and drum, and the lively sounds of a woodwind instrument.

The moon is believed to suggest love and intimacy; no wonder the track is uplifting with an ethereal quality to match the vibe and message passing when they said, “the moon in your eyes,” suggesting, or better still, expressing their love for a lover—a great choice of word from the artist confirming how intelligent they are by using a symbolic phrase in their lyrics.

What is a great song without good songwriting and vocals to match? Dare has proven to the world with this collection what a great songwriter they are, who also possesses a captivating vocal with the track “Horizons,” further cementing this fact. The album, ”Portal”, just like its title suggests, opens a window to a world of self-reflection, expression, and discovery. This is a great work with great collections, leaving no room for boredom.
