“Maybe We Lost It” begins with an almost haunting beat of the drums. Following this is a satisfying soundscape of synth that has a 3D quality, which is achieved through the oscillating of said synth from left to right. This combination of sounds takes the listener on an adventure through the song accompanied by some truly beautiful vocals.

The lyrics of this song made me think about unconditional love, which is a very rare thing to obtain. This, I think, gives the song an even deeper layer that begs to be investigated. I was quickly won over by these complex attributes of the music produced by Alex Starling. “Maybe We Lost It” speaks of witnessing a loved one as they desire to become different, and likely a better version of themselves. Change is scary, and this song delves into the fear of change in those we love and are familiar with.

In life we know people, we lose people, we gain people, and we grow with people. I know what it is like to lose people I love through change. Both change within myself and change that others have gone through. This being the case makes me identify with this song, and that is the reason many artists create music—to allow others to identify with them without ever even meeting them in person, so I say this song is undoubtedly a success.
