THE INTERVIEW
What song or moment in time sparked your passion for music?
It was a concert back in 2007. Screamfest. So the headliners at the time were pretty big, T.I, and Ciara. But it was the surprise acts that were amazing! 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Wyclef Jean, Swiss Beats, and Diddy all came out! It was so surreal. The atmosphere in that concert was incredible. Seeing them all on stage was the moment I knew music was for me.
If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?
So there are four main artists that really inspired me. I would have to say Eminem, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Jay-Z.
How does your creative process work from the moment you develop the idea to the completion of the record?
Typically I go through a couple steps when I’m making a song. I’ll go and try to find beats that I think complement the sound that I am trying to go for in the moment. When I find a beat, I’ll play around with the melody of the sound, coming up with a couple of different flows, and experiment until I found several I like. Then I get to writing. I’ll then record in my own studio, just to get a feeling of how it will sound. I then mess around with it a little bit, until I’m satisfied, and go to DeadZone Recordings to record the final product. If I hear things that I do not like, I will go and rewrite certain sections, and come back and record then too. I’ve noticed recently, I’m becoming much quicker in pointing out the things that I do and do not like in my own tracks, and then recording them again until they sound the way I want them to sound.
As for this release, who is the producer and what about the production moved you?
DXOR is the producer, and I really loved the bass in the track.
When it comes to the songwriting on this record, what is the message you want to get across to your listeners?
That although I feel that the world sometimes can paint me as a “Villain” or bad guy, I know if I continue to do what I do I’ll persevere.
