Each Measure Feature: Wavewulf

FEATURE

Through a combination of 80s synth, modern machine drum beats, and ethereal vocals, Wavewulf single “In Every Blue” is mellow, yet catchy. Wavewulf, aka Nicholas Long, is a New York City based electronic music artist. His music is characterized by immersive soundscapes that create an aural listening experience, making it impossible to fit Wavewulf into one definitive genre. He began his musical career at 13, inspired by Depeche Mode. Throughout his life, Long experimented with synthsizers in local bands. After losing his parents to cancer and completing graduate school, he finally released his first album in 2019. “In Every Blue” is the third single from his upcoming fifth album, “Unbreakable Soul.”

“In Every Blue” was released on July 19 with vocals by Nala Spark’s. Lyrically, the song highlights supportive, enduring friendships. The song’s analogue synthesizers create a vintage 80s vibe, whereas the drum machines add a groovy, modern beat to the melodies. Spark’s echoing vocals are reminiscent of Kate Bush, a sound straight out of a Stranger Things episode. The song is a sneak peek into “Unbreakable Soul,” which mixes electronic subgenres from dream-pop, shoegaze, and synth-wave into one musical series. “In Every Blue” is just a snapshot of Wavewulf’s ability to adapt genres and fuse melodies to create intricate songs, and it is one not to be missed.
