FEATURE

While funk and soul may first have gained popularity in the United States, in the age of information that we live in, it has since traveled to the UK. A shining example of this phenomenon is Tash Hills, who blends the two genres vibrantly. Her masterful instrumentation paired with lyrics conveying messages of empowerment and connection have allowed Hills’ music to resonate with a broad audience. She has been making her mark outside of the studio as well, getting groovy at renowned festivals such as Isle of Wight and Victorious Festival. Hills is also a well-respected collaborator, supporting popular acts like Arrested Development, The Feeling, Secret Night Gang, and Jafunk. However, she certainly stands on her own as well; in fact, a flaming hot new track just dropped on August 16, entitled “Sunday Love.”

“Sunday Love” is a great spiritual successor to Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson’s “Say Say Say.” It features a similar groove, with the vocal line driving the rest of the lively instrumentation home. The chorus is where it gets most original, with a catchy melody, active bass, and wonderfully produced vocals turning up the energy to eleven. The lyrics describe the excitement in anticipation of getting together with a weekend lover, as well as the ecstasy that is experienced when the linkup is successful and the couple in the song get to enjoy each other in the limited time they have with one another. This is certainly relatable to many of our situations today, especially as it gets to that time of year during which school and autumn jobs start up again. If you are stuck in one of these circumstances and miss your summertime loving, or if you just want to get down to a groovy jam, then you are encouraged to check out Tash Hills and “Sunday Love,” out now!
