FEATURE
In under 20 minutes, Suzanne Gailey takes listeners on a Folk Punk journey with gentle guitar, haunting vocals, and raw lyrics in her debut EP “Plain Speaking.” Gailey is a Brighton singer-songwriter inspired by Americana, Folk, and Folk Punk genres. Her musical career began with piano at a young age, until rock and punk entered her life. After studying vocal technique at The Institute of Contemporary Music in London, singing in a folk choir, and being a backup vocalist for various bands, it’s time for Gailey to shine with her first EP. Now, she is writing, producing, and performing guitar-led tunes that showcase her talent from years of musical experience.
“Plain Speaking” was released on June 9th. The EP was co-produced, recorded, and mixed by Nick Williams (Pitch Music Studio) who played various instruments for the EP. Lyrically each song is candid, conveying messages of hope and warning. The simplicity of the acoustic guitar backing the EP allows Gailey’s powerful and ominous vocals to stand out. The opening track, “Eyes Wide Shut” is a standout. Its classic alt-country sound and lyrics are a call to action. The message of concern about the apathy of a tumultuous society in the opening track is relevant to many of her listeners. Gailey’s ability to produce relatable and relevant songs makes this EP special.
