Each Measure Feature: Mylo Choy

FEATURE

Following the release of “SUMMER PROJECTS (PART 1)” in 2022, Mylo Choy is set to release “SUMMER PROJECTS (PART 2)” on July 12, 2024. Based in New Paltz, NY, Choy’s music has received acclaim from Autostraddle and No Depression, among others, and been played on the radio. Inspired by Choy’s year in South Carolina during the pandemic, the new EP has an organic sound reminiscent of the humid environment and cicadas. Each of the five tracks stands out on its own, blending a variety of bass, lap steel, synthesizers, drums, and vocal sounds to immerse the listeners.

Mylo Choy describes “SUMMER PROJECTS (PART 2)” as fundamentally folk at heart, though the EP goes heavy on the synthesizer. Across the album, the lyrics take on themes of grounding, connection, and nature to embody the spirit of folk music. To start the EP off right, “Smallest Things” is about keeping the memory of loved ones alive in everyday life. “Passing By” involves the transient lifestyle, whether locations of relationships, while “Nothing to Know” handles restless sleep due to baseless thoughts. “Love On Its Own” ambitiously imagines a world where love can heal all wounds. To conclude the symphonic EP, “Diorama” leaves listeners on an upbeat note of bringing a creative idea to life. Each track is personal and inviting for listeners to relate to or be inspired by, so “SUMMER PROJECTS (PART 2)” is music to look forward to in July.
