Each Measure Feature: Medalye
FEATURE
Music fans on the hunt for an artist who employs a unique blend of genres in their work should look no further than Medalye. Mixing together rock, pop, and electronica, they personify the authentic indie artist in 2024. They were formed in 2023 and consist of a trio: Max Medalye on vocals and guitar, Alexey Lermontov on bass, and Alexandra Eriklinceva on drums. Performing together, they have had two notable gigs this year: on March 28, they played at Hamiflat Studio, and on August 14, they performed at Ozen Bar TLV. Before the latter show, fans were able to get intimately familiar with Medalye’s songs due to the release of their first full-length album, “No Love Lost,” on August 9, 2024.
All of the tracks on “No Love Lost” were written by Max Medalye between 2019 and earlier this year. They illuminate the difficult situation that was living in Britain during the COVID-19 pandemic and the struggles of coming into conflict with the ever-changing world. The songs “Ripples” and “Summer” explicitly express the intense emotions that Max endured during the time he was writing “No Love Lost.” Despite the heavy nature of the narrative of the record, the energy is consistently kept high, particularly by the fast-paced and catchy percussion. The record also features funky guitar riffs and licks, groovy and creative bass, wide-ranging and ear-tickling synths, and outstanding vocals that drive home the emotions encapsulated by the songs. With “No Love Lost,” Medalye is truly keeping the spirit of Britpop alive while maintaining originality and employing the best of the current musical landscape’s elements.
