THE RELEASE

Meet Mazz, a budding Hip-Hop/Rap phenomenon from Norfolk, East of England, whose distinct content, hypnotic melodies, and compelling flows set him apart from the rest. Mazz's music delves deep into real-life experiences, painting a poignant picture of the struggles faced in the "Bairros" of Portugal, where he found his formative years shaped by crime, poverty, and survivor's guilt. He draws inspiration from acclaimed artists such as Lil Durk, Central Cee, Plutonio, and others. The track's mesmerizing combination of the UK drill sound and insane 808 slides will have you on the edge of your seat, immersing you in a musical trip like no other.

THE INTERVIEW

What song or moment in time sparked your passion for music?
I’ve been writing for a long time but during the coronavirus lockdown, I wrote a song called ‘Remember Me’ which I was meant to release nearly 2 years ago but never did due to certain circumstances. A lot of people listened to that song and loved it and it motivated me even more to pursue this dream.

If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?

This is really difficult because I listen to so much music and different genres but if we are talking about inspiration, definitely Lil Durk and NBA Youngboy. Followed by K-Camp and Nas.

How does your creative process work from the moment you develop the idea to the completion of the record?

I spend countless hours listening to beats on YouTube or beats sent by producers. I have to feel the beat and once I do, I normally complete the hook first. I try to make them catchy and melodic as possible so people can remember it. Then I follow up with the verses, again with the melodic flows.

As for this release, who is the producer and what about the production moved you?

The beat is from producers, Malthe Just and Gabe Lucas. I worked on this song with UK engineer, Danger Sounds. I have a good relationship and chemistry with him when it comes to recording. He also helped me develop my sound to what you guys can hear today.

When it comes to the songwriting on this record, what is the message you want to get across to your listeners?

This song is about love, loyalty and reassurance. It’s just about reminding people of what the situation really is so they don’t forget the relationship/friendship that they have.
