THE INTERVIEW
If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?
It would hardly be 4 people. I think there would be a lot of mountains with the faces of my most sincere listeners, who are proof in the material world that I exist as a singer and songwriter.
Were there any personal experiences or stories that influenced the creation of the music video, and if so, how did they shape the final product?
When creating the video for Twin Peaks Inside&Outside, I was inspired by the works of director David Lynch. When creating the “Hayastan” video, I wanted to use symbols to show the world’s indifference to my country, Armenia. The “Hymn” video was inspired by Armenian unity during the overthrow of the previous government. It was a very powerful and loving time.
What was the most rewarding aspect of making the music video, and what message do you hope viewers take away from it?
In the process of creating the Hayastanin video, the main idea was to show the bright and beautiful places of Armenia, to combine this with the symbols that the dancers represent, the color red. The most important message is to share Armenian culture and introduce it to the world.
Can you share any interesting anecdotes about the song’s development with your co-writers or producers?
My most interesting experience is the combination of my music with the poems of the 20th century Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents. We are separated by 100 years since time, but this did not stop us from creating a whole soulful album “1303”, with the help of which the Armenian language will be heard by listeners in different countries. I love the fact that someone on the other side of the world will hear the beautiful Armenian language, which I am sure has a meditative message and power.
When it comes to the songwriting on this record, what is the message you want to get across to your listeners?
Regardless of what song or album is being written, at the core of each work there must be an open mind to obtain pure art, for this you need to turn off all restrictions and accept. And only then can the resulting pure art touch the hearts of people. In this state, a person can feel all his power, connecting with the whole world. And only then can we say that this goal has been achieved.
