THE INTERVIEW

If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?

I think the four figures would be Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, JMSN and Michael Jackson. Tyler refuses to be put in a box and authentically himself and is multi talented at it. Kendrick creates music projects that have compelling life changing narratives. JMSN is an independent powerhouse full of masterful composing and singing. MJ is just Michael f*cking Jackson.

Were there any specific challenges or breakthrough moments during the production of your new single that had a significant impact on its final form?

When I started the song me and my ex had broken up for a month, so the essence of the song was there but it was very rough. Fast forward 2 years when we actually broke up for good and I sat down and cleaned up the melodies the lyrics as well as the performance and having my homie Tony collaborate with me again took it to the next level.

Can you share insights into the collaborative process behind the creation of your latest single, including any notable contributions from producers, co-writers, engineers or featured artists?

Tony Narvaez, we've been friends for 10 years. We live thousands of miles apart but we have a way to write and compose together that is so organic. We improvise melodies on the video calls. Sometimes I arrange them in a rough structure and we write together like "does this make sense?" and sometimes the other is like "yeah THAT's sick!" and we're like "really? okay" cause we just have that much trust in each other's ears.

Can you articulate the impact or impression you hope your new song leaves on listeners long after they've experienced it for the first time?

The song has been out for almost 6 months and I receive a lot of messages of people going through a dark time and putting this song on after crying and feeling better. Others just immediately starting off their morning with it to get in a great mood. I think that's exactly what I like, to take a sad situation and end up on a hopeful and bright note.

Looking ahead, how does the release of this single pave the way for future projects, and are there any hints or clues about the direction your music might take in the coming months?

Yeah I have an EP on the way and Moonlight is an important part of that project. My music is going into new areas with more melody, new genre mixes and more positive messages.
