Each Measure Feature: Leanne Wilkins & the Weathered
FEATURE
Music is one of those wonderful things in life that can draw us into ourselves and drum up complex, difficult-to-express emotions. A great song can connect with us in a way that words alone never could. Push & Pull by Leanne Wilkins & The Weathered is one such song and kicks off the group's newest EP of the same name with a command of emotion and introspection that's a rare treat to the ears and the heart.
Starting off with a gentle piano before building to a more powerful rise in energy with the addition of guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, Push & Pull is a masterful weave of feeling and forward motion that encapsulates a beautiful, melancholic feeling in the listener while maintaining that gentleness throughout. The song is, at its core, a meditation on surrender, growth, and following your heart, and specifically centers around the internal conflicts we all struggle with between what we want and what we need deep down in our souls. It's a conflict we can all relate to on some level, and, as such, the song stands out among the rest of the EP.
The record includes a total powerhouse of talent, with Leanne Wilkins providing soft, gentle, and heartfelt vocals, keys, and guitar; Josh Tvrdy's echoing and powerful lead guitar; and Charlie Smith on synth. Meanwhile, Clint Hoyler and Ben Loshin tie the whole thing together with their bass and drums. The Seattle-based group is a force to be reckoned with and are all musicians worth keeping an eye on in the future, which promises the release of their upcoming album, The Art of Letting Go.
