Each Measure Feature: Karen Salicath Jamali

FEATURE

“Dreams of Angels” is a 2024 release by pianist Karen Salicath Jamali. Dreams of Angels is a 16-track album of solo piano music written immediately after waking and inspired by dreams. Each song is aptly named after angels or subjects associated with angels. I felt intimidated by the subject of this piece, and I was not even sure if I was worthy to write it. I decided to get on my knees and pray before listening to the album, then again before I began writing. I pray that I can do the divinely inspired music justice.

Each track of Dreams of Angels is a beautiful journey through sound. My fondness for piano was reignited during the time I spent listening to Karen’s wonderful musical expressions. I will touch on a few of my favorites. As an artist, I was drawn to “Angel Israfil (Angel of Music).” While listening, I felt a calm but unwavering determination. I love the fact that each song is named after the divine and that they were created while in the presence of the divine.

Next, I was also very fond of “Raziel (The Angel of Clarity).” This song starts very calmly and slowly, then becomes a bit more complex and settles into its rhythm. By the middle of the song, I almost felt as if my heart was dancing to the melody. It really is such a lovely talent she possesses. The last track I will cover is “Jeramiel (The Angel of Dreams).” This is the final track on the album. While listening to its dream like sound, it seems to spread through my very being, relieving my unreachable tensions.

I will be listening to this album for the rest of my life, and I am grateful to have had it delivered onto my path. I have been seeing angel numbers very often lately, and I feel as if I am in a critical time in my life. If you are reading this, then maybe it is the same for you. I urge any and all to give Dreams of Angels a try.
