Each Measure Feature: Josh Hicks
FEATURE
Contemporary Welsh singer-songwriter Josh Hicks’ newest acoustic EP, Live & Acoustic, masterfully showcases his soul-infused sound and storytelling. This project marks an exciting step in his journey as an independent artist, providing him the space to delve into a stripped-back sound that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant.
The tracklist opens with three acoustic reimaginings of previously released songs. “Self-Seeking” serves as a perfect introduction to Hicks’ style for new listeners, spotlighting his impressive vocal range and sultry timbre reminiscent of Adele. An expressive guitar accompaniment elevates the track, making it an instant favorite of mine. “Everything About You” is an intimate ballad with lyrics as tender as a lover’s whisper: “I can’t deny that you make me feel alive.” The acoustic guitar’s smooth, lilting melody pairs beautifully with Josh’s vocals. In “Home is Where the Heart Is,” Hicks explores the familiar struggle of finding one’s true home—a sentiment that speaks to anyone who’s moved frequently. A subtle bassline beneath it all feels like the push and pull of longing for home. “Same Air,” an original song to be fully released in 2025, tenderly touches on the “honeymoon stage” of a relationship. The driving drumbeat builds perfectly to the chorus and will have you hanging onto each lyric. The EP closes with the bonus track, “To Love For A Day,” a special piece that reminisces on the complexities of love and longing. Its swooning saxophone accompaniment and vocals solidify it as an ode to the act of loving.
Live & Acoustic EP is a heartfelt exploration of love in its many forms, from the thrill of romance to the warmth of family and the search for belonging. Each track offers its own story, weaving together a well-rounded reflection on human connection. Through raw acoustic arrangements, Hicks invites us to connect with our own experiences of love and home.
