Each Measure Feature: James Keen

FEATURE

An artist that travels the world is more likely than not to have a unique and broad approach to their work. James Keen, who was born in Australia, grew up in Hong Kong, and currently resides in London, is an artist that supports that statistic. He combines musical aspects of pop, R&B, rock, and folk in his music and does so with such skill that he has been compared to the likes of Neil Young and Tracy Chapman. Keen’s latest project is an eleven-track solo album entitled “Crossover.”

Keen wrote "Crossover" as a form of escape, highlighting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on his artistic journey. It features prominent acoustics (in fact, two of the tracks on this album have been nominated as finalists for the International Acoustic Music Awards), inspired and catchy vocals, steady percussion, funky electric guitar, and groovy bass. Fans of artists such as Oasis, Ed Sheeran, and Funkadelic alike will appreciate this ambitious, genre-bleeding record for its accessible and lighthearted song structure, fun chord progressions, lyrical and vocal talent, and groovy instrumentals. “Crossover” fully exhibits Keen’s deep and diverse talent as a singer-songwriter and is keeping us on the edge of our seats as we await his next musical contribution.
