Each Measure Feature: Fiona Amaka
FEATURE
Fiona Amaka creates an intimate, soft rock vibe in the acoustic version of her new song, “Tell Her Why.” Amaka is a singer-songwriter from London with soulful rock-n-roll roots. After playing alongside local bands, she is now exploring her musical capacity as a solo artist playing live gigs in London, with radios worldwide from Radio Armazem in Brazil and Hot 97.3 FM in Connecticut. Her Stevie Nicks and Tracy Chapman influences are clear in her discography which are a contrasting, yet suitable mix of exciting, fast-paced rock anthems and folk-inspired slow jams. “Tell Her Why” is a tasteful showcase of Amaka’s softer, mellower side while still carrying on that rock-n-roll influence.
“Tell Her Why” was released on August 18 and produced by Andy Zanini and Eric Sanicola. Amaka shines a light on the darker side of relationships, her vocals are genuine and emotional which get the message across in a uniquely heartfelt way. There is also a sense of frustration in Amaka’s vocals– frustration over the unsaid things and the miscommunication between lovers. The song is simple: an acoustic guitar, alongside Amaka’s ardent vocals. However, its simplicity should not be diminished as it creates a more authentic feeling to the song– as if Amaka is speaking directly to the listener. To top it all off, Amaka’s layered harmonies add an element of complexity which display her unique knack of incorporating a rock-n-roll influence throughout her music.
