FEATURE

From a challenging upbringing to an Ivy League school attendance, Graphene’s unique journey has led him to his fourth project release, “Life’s a Bar.” Hailing from Flint, Michigan, Graphene’s determination is evident in his work ethic and drive, whether it’s training for the NFL or balancing hip-hop with a corporate career. With inspiration from a wide range of artists, like Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar, Graphene started devoting more focus to his music career in 2020. Listeners of “Life’s a Bar” will be able to relate to the growth and personal experiences Graphene has captured on the album.

“Life’s a Bar” has a deep story that drives the distinct sounds. Recorded in his home office in The Bronx, Graphene’s hip-hop project adopts the metaphor of life as a bar. He constructs a musical journey that handles the mad dash from birth to death and the complex events that unfold between. Graphene’s vocals and lyrics are powerful on each track, using raw emotion and introspection that listeners will feel. As the artist states, “If you love the music, that’s great. If you hate it, that’s cool, too; I’m making something you can feel, not something to be indifferent towards.” With emotional words and vulnerable vocals, listeners are sure to feel and think their way through “Life’s a Bar.”
