Each Measure Feature: David Cloyd
FEATURE
New Yorker David Cloyd has exciting things in store! Cloyd is a longtime friend of the music industry; in 2009, he released his first album Unhand Me, You Fiend!, which was recorded in his 9x9 Sunset Park, Brooklyn apartment. This album went on to hit #1 on eMusic and earned Cloyd a feature in New York Magazine. Afterwards, Cloyd released a second record entitled I Could Disappear that showcased his extraordinary musicianship with a set of live-in-studio performances of the material from Unhand Me, You Fiend!. Cloyd then moved to Buffalo to start a family, and he also founded Buffalo-based ECR imprint Hook & Ladder Records as a producer. Now, Cloyd is back in the position of the artist as he prepares to release his first record in over a decade, entitled Red Sky Warning.
“Ocean of Hours” is the first single on Red Sky Warning. It is a somber, acoustic-driven indie rock tune. The vocals are drony, the percussion is consistent throughout, and the electric guitar that comes in later in the song is very atmospheric. There is an interesting “tick-tock” effect made with what sounds like the acoustic guitar, which is very reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s bass-created “tick-tock” effect in Time. The bass in this tune is solid and holds down the groove while adding depth. Indie rock fans are likely to enjoy “Ocean of Hours,” which was released on September 24 and is available now. Red Sky Warning is set to be released early in 2025.
