Tempo Talks: A Conversation with Cris Cain

THE RELEASE

Cris Cain, an artist who is as passionate as he is persuasive, has released his new single, ‘Power Up’. Highly regarded by his peers, Cain has left his mark with credits on Fatboy Izzo's The LP (2016), DJ Wavesz's In Da PotA (Down Low) (2018), and Mr. Paper's 6:13 (2022). After a break, he is back, much to the excitement of his waiting fans. Something that's different about Cain can indeed be found in the lyrics, with his physically powerful delivery. One moment singing sweet and mournful words, the next in an aggressive tone that seems almost brutal, yet it is never out of place with what he's doing at this time. What makes Cris's music special is this combination of mellow melody and full-on modern trap. The result is a sonic thrill—ethanol straight into your ears!

'POWER UP', the breakout single by astonishing artist Cris Cain, has thrust him back into the limelight. Due to his work with Fatboy Izzo (2016) on "The LP," DJ Wavesz (2018) 'In da PotA' and Mr. Paperz "6.13" of 2022, which were widely recognized and respected among industry figures, Cain has built up a most influential professional philosophy. As Cain emerges from an interval of rest, fans must be looking forward to something new. What really separates Cain from the pack is not only his lyrics and an irresistible performance, but he also melds harmonies with a contemporary trap vibe that keeps the latest creation fresh. Cain's singing is assured; that's obvious from the first note of his new album.

THE INTERVIEW

If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?

Barack Obama(because he was the 1st, I want to be so unique, that im the 1st to do what I did, Drake(inspired me to be different and that was something that was easy for me), Bob Marley, ( his music till this day touches my soul, and it’s not only because I’m half Jamaican. His uniqueness makes adding him to this east. Jay-Z( being from Brooklyn, isn’t easy neither is being Jay) he made it to the list, simply because he’s Jay.

Were there any specific challenges or breakthrough moments during the production of your new single that had a significant impact on its final form?

It’s funnny because the song POWER UP, started as a freestyle, with my two friends and my brother freestyling over the beat, as each one stepped up to the mic for there turn, everybody said “ time to POWER UP” so when I freestyled you can hear me start off saying “I HAD TO POWER UP”, that’s because I really did lol.

Can you share insights into the collaborative process behind the creation of your latest single, including any notable contributions from producers, co-writers, engineers or featured artists?

The song was entirely freestyled by me, hook and verse, a couple words were fixed that I mispronounced, but the beauty of the song was the truth spoken and the fact that it was spoken from the heart and a true freestyle. The instrumental which was produced by Serbian Smile was a banger that started a great relationship between an artist and producer from across the globe.

Can you articulate the impact or impression you hope your new song leaves on listeners long after they've experienced it for the first time?

I know when a person hears the song for hr first time, by the time it’s in the middle or over they already most likely are asking to hear it again 😂, which, in turn kinda upsets me because it makes me understand the importance of saying your name or at least giving the fan a way to find you just by listening to the song. But PRAISE GOD FOR SHAZAM!

Looking ahead, how does the release of this single pave the way for future projects, and are there any hints or clues about the direction your music might take in the coming months?

POWER UP paves the way on Cris Cain’s future by showing that his talent is really getting better and not slowing up. After getting shot and barely surviving last year, the song POWER UP is really an understatement for what Cris Cain plans for his future.
