Each Measure Feature: Chris Erasmus

Country and classical are unusual genres of music to mix; however, this has not stopped Chris Erasmus from combining them to make new songs. Chris Erasmus is a London-based musician and actor who started his life out in South Africa. With a unique blend of country style and classical training, Chris creates powerful music that captivates audiences with its heartfelt storytelling and emotive delivery. His dynamic personality and dedication to his craft make him a standout figure in the world of entertainment. On October 25, 2024, Chris released a new single named "Listen." This follows up his other recent releases, including “Shotgun,” “Hurt,” “Outrider,” and “Coal Train To New York.”

“Listen” is a piano-driven track that takes no time in establishing an atmosphere of intensity through the playing of powerful chords in an attacking manner. When the vocals come in, they hit with a certain level of depth and clarity that I have only seen in properly experienced singers. They also carry emotional undertones with a country accented overtone. The main part of the song brings in supportive percussion, bass, and electric guitar licks. Eventually, a large, emotional crescendo is reached, during which the vocals get very high and fast, and a guitar solo ensues. Chris’s mastery of theatrics and classical vocals are combined during this crescendo to deliver the ultimate emotional punch, and this carries over into the end of the track as well. Overall, “Listen” is an emotional, country-theater listening experience that will leave a new, unique, and unignorable feeling in the listener as they wonder what Chris Erasmus will deliver next.
