Each Measure Feature: Chelsy Kaze
FEATURE
Meet Chelsy Kaze, singer/songwriter and musician, leading an ensemble of Wesley Graham on electric guitar, Kaylin Cushenan on backup vocals, and Peggy Lee on the titillating cello. The band is the result of a long line of mutual friends, finally resulting in the beautiful union, as the four of them realized the shared passion for making music. This explains their eclectic musical inspirations, which go from Fleetwood Mac to The Killers to Joni Mitchell. “I don’t ever want to leave stories unheard. We tell stories on stage, and we’re writers when we write. I think that the creativity and passion that travel behind that are everything; that’s the point. We’re trying to be alive. We’re trying to have songs that connect with people,” says Chelsy.
On her current single “Kings and Queens,” Chelsy Kaze finds herself snared within the narrative of a timeless love that spans lifetimes. Recorded with care and intention, the track was born from the very concept of love as it exists between temporal boundaries. A binge session on time-based programming and documentaries proved to be the inspiration Kaze needed, as she penned a track that details the narrative of two entities tied to one another across generations and the many lives being lived. The direction graphed upon “Kings and Queens” is one that charters that of a different kind of mythos of connection. The pull one feels towards another being is explained definitively as a mystery: two people feel a pull toward one another, though they are unaware of their shared history. As they grasp at the end of a film reel and navigate the brave new, unsteady reality before them, Kaze’s song is a tantalizing preview of a story of love that refuses to die with time that we, the listeners, can uncover with eager ears.
