Each Measure Feature: Bryant Thomas

FEATURE

Bryant Thomas may be a newcomer to the country music scene, but everything about his latest single, Enough suggests otherwise. Released on January 27, 2025, Thomas' latest track laments a complicated romantic goodbye that comes down to the oh-so-relatable realization that things are just not enough to keep going. Summarizing the lyrical message does not nearly touch the heart-twisting quality of this emotional tune. Thomas’s skillful vocal runs and instrumentation paired with Nicholas McElmurry’s masterful production are a perfect match.

The song moves with a mournful grace through the stages of emotion in making a tough decision. Maybe it’s a common story for country songs to follow, which makes it even more impressive to find a song that brings a fresh take. What I enjoy about this track specifically is how authentic and assured it felt, both in the basics and the details. The track takes its time, a steady rhythm meeting the melancholic melody that satisfies with repetition. The repeated patterns in both music and lyrics are perfectly employed to produce a song that you can easily sing along to, and a chorus that lingers in the brain long after.

After relocating from Alabama to Southern Florida, Enough was recorded at McElmurry’s home studio, and from what I can see, it's the second track they’ve made together. Listening to Thomas’ other tracks, it's clear there has been an evolution. It’s an interesting jump to make from self-recording to studio. Truly, Thomas’ earlier tracks are the charming, bare-bones recordings that win us over with their raw passion. But even with the addition of more instruments and slicker production, Enough manages to capture exactly that essence that sparked listeners in his early-day tracks. The mix creates a fuller sound, articulating Thomas’ beautifully resonant vocals without being overproduced; a true feat considering the swanky possibilities of production these days. Overall, despite what he says in the song, to me this track is definitely more than “enough” to be excited for what’s to come.
