Each Measure Feature: Ubiquity Machine

FEATURE

A friend of mine once said that a great bass line gives life to a piece of music. If that's true, Romeo and Juliet, the newest EP from Ubiquity Machine, is more lively than a lot of people I've met. Don't be fooled, however, Romeo and Juliet isn't a one-trick-pony. Beyond the swinging, energetic bass lines, the EP displays an incredible amount of technical skill; jazzy keyboard and complex drum beats weave their way into each song, as well as groovy guitar solos that call to mind the greats of the 60s and 70s.

Despite the energy and complexity of the music, Romeo and Juliet maintains a mellowness that keeps listening to it a smooth, gentle experience to the ears, and would be just as at home on your cocktail party playlist as it would be playing at your favorite bar.

Among the songs, the third on the EP, I Think It's Funny, stands out amongst the rest, maintaining the same strengths of its peers while at the same time far surpassing them, ultimately showing us what Ubiquity Machine is capable of.

Of course, take that statement with a grain of salt. Romeo and Juliet marks only the first half of Ubiquity Machine's upcoming album, so knowing just what they're capable of remains to be seen. While more of the same would absolutely be welcome, the band still has a chance to surprise us with something new when the second half of the album releases later this year. With it, Ubiquity Machine promises "a bold reinforcement of the band’s emotional and signature Pop / Rock / Alternative innovations."
