Each Measure Feature: Taylor Lang

FEATURE

Taylor Lang’s debut single, “Broke But Never Broken,” as a solo artist is a comforting trail-riding song. By that, I mean that the lyrics are emotional and introspective to make listeners think while they’re driving, working, etc. At least, that’s what it did for me. Lang has spent almost a decade in the award-winning band Crack the Lens and as the frontman for Blaesar. While the former is known for grunge, “Broke But Never Broken” falls more in the folk-style of the latter. Produced by JUNO-winner Russell Broom, the single has some great guitar and instrumental work to complement the raw emotions of Lang.

It’s no wonder that Lang has earned many accolades on his musical journey, including a nomination for Folk Album of the Year in 2019. With performances at numerous festivals, like the Calgary Folk Club, he’s gained a reputation that “Broke But Never Broken” delivers on. The song expresses a message of perseverance through hard times, giving inspiration alongside Lang’s expert fingerpicking style. When you add Taylor’s voice to the music and motivating lyrics, you get a solo debut single that brings everything Lang has to offer listeners in the best way possible.
