Each Measure Feature: Mortal Prophets

FEATURE

Mortal Prophets have returned with a new otherworldly EP. Brian Eno In Heaven serves not only as a tribute to the legendary Brian Eno, but as a guide for a journey between mesmerizingly liminal planes. A testament to innovation in music, John Beckmann’s artistry shines through in this haunting and beautiful collection.

“Drowned Lands” begins somewhere delightfully mysterious and cultivates an air of tentative curiosity. As listeners are lured to peek behind the curtain and delve deeper into the forest of sound, “Mesmer on Holiday” builds upon this mystic energy. Foreboding but tempting, listeners are soon swept into “Swimming With Witches”, a positively electric affair. Something is alive under the surface as thrumming and bewitching tones conjure images of occult rituals.

Approaching the back half of the EP, “Fraulein Anna Sprengel” pays homage to the shrouded origins of the occult secret society, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The titular track, “Brian Eno In Heaven”, an energetic, swarming atmosphere; a shimmering soundscape where light and dark come together as a final ode to Eno’s innovation and a showcase of Beckmann’s musical genius.

At five tracks, Brian Eno In Heaven may be a short collection, but its deep and sophisticated sonic identity leaves a long-lasting and enchanting impact on those who listen. The EP is a brave and innovative chapter in the Mortal Prophets’ narrative.
