THE INTERVIEW
If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?
Russ, Aminé, Nepal (FR), Loyle Carner
What song or moment in time sparked your passion for music?
When I left home to go live in London for a few month after have stopped my first year at university in Belgium when I was 18. At this time I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life, I started to write my first rhymes in this atmosphere. Here we are now 7 years later.
How does your creative process work from the moment you develop the idea to the completion of the record?
We’re releasing a song every month so it’s hard work, as soon as we finish a song we’re up on the next one. I inspire myself from lots of artists and share them with my dad who is my beatmaker/producer. We agree on a mood and a tempo we want to create then he makes the cooking by himself in the studio and send me an idea or a few different ideas. Most often I’m instantly in love with his loops so I start to write lyrics and find melodies. As soon as I have something I send it to him so he can continue the cooking with the extra spice I’ve added. We repeat this until the song is done.
As for this release, who is the producer and what about the production moved you?
We are a father and son production duo, he does the beat, mix and mastering and I write the lyrics, sing, rap and do our visuals. He’s a genius, the sound is so clean and he does it all by himself, I’m so lucky.
When it comes to the songwriting on this record, what is the message you want to get across to your listeners?
“We all learn how to deal with temptations, take a step back and do the rotation”, be aware and conscious of what’s in and outside your mind to get the most out of you.
