FEATURE

Launched in 2008 with singer and primary songwriter A.L.X. at the helm, Love Crushed Velvet has developed into a major player on the rock scene in New York City. With such iconic members as drummer Thommy Price, guitarist Jimi Bones, and bassist Enzo Penizzotto, the self-titled first album of the band in 2011 made them an instant hit with entries like "Letter" and "Goodbye Goldblatt." Inspiration comes from a variety of sources and different genres for A.L.X., but it's the pulse of NYC that fires his inspiration. Looking back over an extensive variety of influences and a sound echoing the city's rock history, Love Crushed Velvet continues to grab their audiences, embodying half a century of rock music's spirit.

In Love Crushed Velvet's latest release, "Blind Emotions," it explores romantic vulnerability to a new depth and blurs the line between dream and reality. A.L.X.'s voice is full of raw and candid emotion, while the song's captivating beat also requires listeners to re-evaluate the finer points of loving someone. The correlation between this last music video and Surrealist painter Alena Dean Chen's VC selection was directed by digital artist Alena Savchenko. Employing anomalous techniques she gleaned from AI art to create images that are actually thorny in places but have features of distortion that are precisely in harmony with their poignant narrative. In the video, things build to a climax as viewers are taken on an entrancing tour of the human mind, requiring many subsequent viewings before one can begin to penetrate its intricate layers. "Blind Emotions" shows the fearless creativity of Love Crushed Velvet, both musically and visually.
