THE INTERVIEW

If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?

Firstly Sam Fender his music and his sound has greatly influenced my music and my own sound now that I’m doing a more indie rock. Second would have to be Tim Rice oxley who’s the main songwriter for the band keane. His songwriting is always so spot on and has inspired to want to improve my own songwriting. Third David le’aupepe from the band Gang of youths. The way he writes such brilliant lyrics in these incredibly emotional songs while sticking to this big rock sound. Fourth Chris Martin of Coldplay. Coldplay is one of the bands I listened to from a really young age and they still continue to inspire me now.

What song or moment in time sparked your passion for music?

I think for me it’s probably Man on the moon by R.E.M. It’s one of my first memories of music and I still love it even now years later. It’s a great song and great songs live on.

How does your creative process work from the moment you develop the idea to the completion of the record?

For me it usually starts on an acoustic guitar, really bare bones. Just playing some chords. I do that until lyrics appear or not. I try to get the song down completely or almost completely. Lyrics and chords until I’m satisfied.

As for this release, who is the producer and what about the production moved you?

For this release I worked with a great producer called Raffer. Who worked on my last Ep before this song.

I was referencing Sam Fender and the band Inhaler for this song and that direction helped inform the sound. I knew I wanted big drums and big guitars with a driving rhythm. And with the help of Raffer I got something I’m really proud of and captured my original vision for the song.

When it comes to the songwriting on this record, what is the message you want to get across to your listeners?

I think with this song I wanted people to have fun and enjoy themselves. I had so many serious songs on the last Ep. When I went through such a dark period in my life. And coming out the other side. It made me appreciate life and enjoy life more!

When it comes to the message at the core of it. It’s me. I wanted to give an update on my life since the first Ep. I also wanted to show the world I’m doing better. And show people that you can get to other side. It gets better and that life is beautiful and worth living for!
