Each Measure Feature: Leonie Evans

FEATURE

As the first single from her upcoming album, “Collaborations Volume 3, Leonie Evans recorded “I Really Do” in New Orleans last spring. The unique track comes after the success of the first two “Collaborations” albums, which featured almost 80 musicians and engineers. Keeping with the tradition, “Collaborations Volume 3” has around 40 more musicians across the globe. Created and recorded in a single day, “I Really Do” has a large array of musicians on the track: Evans does vocals and upright piano, Rhodes is on the piano and organ, Sam Gelband plays drums and offers vocals, Lyle Werner plays violin, Anders Christopherson plays plucked piano, Gina Leslie handles bass and vocals, and Ajai Combelic brings the omnichord.

Drawing inspiration from diverse influences like American music, folk, Latin, alternative pop, and world music, “I Really Do” is as authentic as they come. Evans based the skeleton of the song on her struggles with romantic relationships and sexuality. Once she had that done, she left the interpretation and music up to each musician involved to create an organic track. With previous performances at iconic venues like the Royal Albert Hall for BBC Proms and appearances on BBC Radio, Evans has been a staple in the UK and European festival scenes for over two decades. Continuing her journey of musical exploration and connection with artists around the world, “I Really Do” is just a unique taste of Evans’ new album that has something for everyone.
