KØASH's latest release, 'Somebody,' adds yet another layer to his diverse musical portfolio, highlighting his dynamic range as an artist and his ability to infuse heartfelt emotion into upbeat bops.

The track 'Somebody' is a masterful presentation of KØASH's signature style - an upbeat pop bop enriched with the lively zest of the 80s, harmonious melodies, and reflective lyrics that resonate with listeners on a personal level. The song delves into the complications of modern dating, where fleeting moments often replace the pursuit of genuine connections. It portrays the common narrative of using people for temporary satisfaction, a poignant critique of today's dating culture. However, it's not all critique - KØASH's 'Somebody' also serves as a hopeful call for authenticity and genuine love, making it a track that's as thoughtful as it is danceable.

THE INTERVIEW

What song or moment in time sparked your passion for music?
I’ve always found it interesting how music is an essential part in almost everything. Whether you’re watching a film, training at the gym or dining at a restaurant. Music sets the vibe of everything and wanting to learn how to create memorable moments and tell stories through music can’t be pinpointed back to a specific moment in time because of how many moments it’s attached too.

If you had to create a Mount Rushmore of inspiration, what four individuals molded the artist you are today?

Mami Kawada, Michael Jackson, Darren Hayes & Sakanaction. (I know it’s a strange mountain)

How does your creative process work from the moment you develop the idea to the completion of the record?

It usually starts with a melody which I record as a voice note on my phone. I then write lyrics that are usually inspired by other people’s experiences. I listen a lot to other people as a lot of everyday conversations make for some of the most compelling lyrics. We’re all songwriters, we just don’t all know it.

As for this release, who is the producer and what about the production moved you?

My really good friend (Grammy Nominated) Daniel Evans. He really dialled into the contemporary take on 80’s vibes with this one. The production really brings out the melancholy of the song's meaning and drives the sense of desperation I was trying to deliver with the lyrics and melody.

When it comes to the songwriting on this record, what is the message you want to get across to your listeners?

This song was written in lockdown a couple of years back and at the time everyone was completely alienated from one another. Some people would meet up and breach lockdown restrictions just to use each other for fleeting moments. Hearing stories about these people I wanted to not only explore the loneliness I was feeling but explore the theme of how people use one another for momentary pleasure instead of seeking true love and soulmates.
