From Local Experiment to Global Collaboration: The Rise of INTERCONTINEN7AL

THE ARTIST

INTERCONTINEN7AL is a virtual collaboration of musicians from all 7 continents that has evolved from a local band in Columbia, Maryland. The group has created 14 original songs for their third album, INTERCONTINEN7AL, Vol. 3. The band's journey began in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic led to lockdowns and live music being put on hold. The local Columbia, MD band Toast, consisting of Matt Smith, Jamie Miller, Ben Gaither, Emily Betz and guest Becca Drayer, turned to virtual collaboration through the application BandLab. The group shared drum tracks, guitar riffs, and other ideas to create their first album.

Some Thousand Feet High by Intercontinen7al

THE MUSIC

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Some Thousand Feet High," written by Andrasta (Olivia Olsson) and Jukerok. The song was performed and created by the talented international group showcasing their diversity with smooth vocals and somber piano and guitar chords. The song explores the complexities of love, fear, and hope in relationships. With 25 musicians collaborating globally, INTERCONTINEN7AL Vol. 3 is sure to be a memorable album.

All album proceeds are currently supporting the Ukrainian refugee relief effort. The album will also feature a song promoting peace between Ukraine and Russia called куди ми йдемо звідси (or Where Do We Go From Here?), featuring musicians from both Ukraine and Russia collaborating together to promote peace.

THE LYRICS

Thinking that no one cares to climb”
