Submerging in Sound: ICEBERG's 'Swim' EP Takes Listeners on an Emotional Voyage
THE ARTIST
ICEBERG, the Pennsylvania-born artist and producer with an ambient indie rock soul, recently relocated from the bustling metropolis of London to a serene cabin in upstate New York. With heart-wrenching lyrics and an enthralling voice, she has skyrocketed into collaborations with some of the UK's finest talents. ICEBERG's writing prowess and production skills have led her to co-write for X-Factor winner Matt Terry, serve as an engineer and female vocalist for Aston Microphones, and establish her as a truly unstoppable force in the industry. A classically trained pianist and former Nashville-based touring artist, she thrives on composing songs in under 30 minutes, encapsulating the rawest emotions in their most vibrant form. Her impassioned delivery and the genuine emotion she imbues into every word make her voice leap from the speakers and connect directly to the listener's soul.
Embodying the nature of her namesake, ICEBERG creates music by delving deep beneath the surface, exploring the hidden 90% of her emotions. She says “I write to trick my brain into telling me how I’m really feeling. To express things that are difficult to speak out loud. Growing up, my favorite feeling in the world was listening to an artist say something I’d felt but couldn’t articulate.” She writes to unveil her true feelings and give voice to the unspoken. Her powerful connection to music has allowed her to amass an impressive record of over a thousand performances as an independent artist, touring across the US and Europe with her band. ICEBERG's talent has been recognized in numerous publications, including Clout Magazine, Dusty Organ, No Depression Magazine, Pens Eye View, and the Huffington Post. Since her move to London, she has worked in top studios, produced and written for various bands, and performed at renowned indie venues and festivals like FloVibe and Fringe Fest. Additionally, she opened her own production studio, Glassnote Productions, with a focus on empowering and producing for female, LGBTQ+ artists, further showcasing her commitment to fostering diverse voices in the music industry.
THE MUSIC
We were immediately captivated by ICEBERG's new EP from the very first track. The title track delves into the artist's aspirations to reach the pinnacle of the music industry, while also grappling with the fear of aging before realizing her dreams. The song poignantly addresses the double standards that women face and society's fixation on youth, with lyrics like "I can feel my face crumbling." Beyond these themes, the song also embraces the beauty of nature, which seems to be a recurring motif in ICEBERG's work. The intimate metallic strumming, combined with her warm yet powerful voice and the lush backing vocals, draws us in and leaves me eager to hear more. With each line carrying a unique melody, the bright synth and patient, steady drums make it impossible to look away from the captivating sound.
The second track, "Can't Forgive Me," explores the duality of desire and fear within the context of unfulfilled love. We found myself entranced by the blend of felt piano, textured synths, and ICEBERG's soft, doubled voice that create a poignant beginning, leaving me hanging onto every poetic word. The sweeping cellos, ambient guitars, melancholic bass, and soulful drum groove make the chorus feel like a bittersweet release, with ICEBERG's voice intensifying and growing warmer. The fourth track, "Blood Bank," examines human dependence and the need for connection, using a sustained metaphor of her partner's blood coursing through her veins to nourish and sustain her life. As a listener, we couldn’t help but be moved by the haunting vocals and live recorded piano that dance over echoing backing vocals and chill-inducing strings. The blood metaphor weaves its way through both her vocals and the song's groove, creating a unique and unforgettable listening experience. We were beyond impressed to find such a talented artist who was able to display their depth and raw emotion in such an impactful way. We look forward to observing the interplay of her music industry odyssey and affinity for the natural world in shaping her creative evolution.
