Each Measure Feature: Delta of Venus

FEATURE

“Disengaged b/w Slipping” is a 2024 release by Delta of Venus. Delta of Venus is based in Mystic, Connecticut. This band has a complicated history stemming back to the 90s, which may pique the interests of new listeners. The current version of the band features a new singer named Issy and her softly alluring vocal talents.

The double single “Disengaged b/w Slipping” begins with “Disengaged,” which introduces itself with a musical style reminiscent of some of the softer grunge of the 90s. The song has a beautifully unique quality to it. Lyrically, this song is very relatable to anyone who has been in love. It speaks of the rougher times of romance when arguments arise. The lyrics poignantly say, “You’re fighting; I’m trying to lose. If I win, I may lose you”. This is a very artistic way to express those critical times in a relationship when a lot of mindfulness and delicacy is required to absolve problems of life.

The second half of this two-track EP is “Slipping.” As “Disengaged” described a more mindful state of one caught in the complexities of love, this track delves into a more desperate state, when all one can do is just try to hold it all together. I believe they will gain some devoted followers with these emotion-driven songs, and for those who lean more on the lyrical side of music, I think there will be much time spent on discussions about “Disengaged b/w Slipping” online in the days ahead.

I enjoyed listening to this new release by Delta of Venus, and I look forward to hearing what else they will explore with Issy as their singer!
