Each Measure Feature: Del'Noire

FEATURE

Producing, mixing, mastering, and even the cover art - Del’Noire is truly a fully self-made artist. His latest single Tyler Down is a testament to recovery and growth, in more than one way. Right from the start this artist intrigued me. Tyler Down is an instant mood with its steady pulsing beat. Suddenly in comes a glittery piano melody, climbing to the forefront of the track and sweeping the song forward. It’s a rare sound that’s surprising and playful, who is this guy?

It turns out that, previously producing music under the name Matyascorvinus, this Finnish artist is no stranger to polishing and experimenting with his music. Multi-instrumentalist since childhood, he is truly a DIY artist. But in 2024 he released his first EP as “Del'Noire”, marking a shift towards a more dance/electronic sound showcased in a three-track EP. Since his last release, Del’Noire has upskilled with the help of a friend and audio engineer Teemu Aalto. He then applied his new production tips to new music, bringing us to Tyler Down.

When I first heard this track, it reminded me of an album I frequented last year: Joe Hisaishi’s soundtrack for Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. It’s a totally different sound, but my brain felt the connection and I think I know why. Del’Noire’s single is a compelling movement forward, like a walk through a vast landscape, or an entire arduous but uplifting voyage. The background beat keeps rhythm while the piano melody moves with character, peppered with minor moments but ending with the same uplifting hook.

Inspired by a character from the series and book 13 Reasons Why, it makes sense that this song feels like a transformation. The character overcomes and finds a way to rekindle hope and connection despite his trauma. The spirited energy of this track translates exactly that, but I see another layer of this narrative in Del’Noire’s intentional and inspiring drive to keep progressing. His hopes this year are to produce one single per month,  this song marking the start of a new and promising journey.
