Each Measure Feature: Cass & the Sass

FEATURE

Cass & the Sass have released their debut single—a cozy love song called “Little Brick House.” Cassidy Marie, Graham Horman, Lawrence Langley, and Ryan Usumi together created this live recording in a single take. They describe it as a “heartfelt ode to appreciating life’s simple pleasures,” and the tune radiates that warmth.

Electric guitar, bass, and drums pluck out an upbeat bossa nova grove as Marie dishes out lyrics stuffed with colorful imagery. The first verse paints a vibrant picture of “all the pets on the couch, you and I on the floor, in a little brick house with a colorful door.” Then the chorus drifts off into the kind of optimistic musings shared by two people who are passionately in love.

The second verse returns to visions of the future and, towards the end, the song breaks down into a guitar solo followed by a stripped back and vulnerable chorus. It feels like the blissfully frenetic daydreaming of two lovers curled up in bed a Sunday morning. At the center of it all, is a love that feels like home.

Marie, with her pleasantly wobbling vibrato and loose annunciation, offers a unique blend of singer-songwriter charm and jazz vocalist cool-factor. She navigates the emotion of it all deftly and ad libs the song to it’s grand finale. “Little Brick House” is a song for lovers. Effervescent enough to capture a truly special feeling, but mellow enough to be the soundtrack of your date while you forge a connection worthy of your own little brick house.
