Each Measure Feature: Captain Highside

FEATURE

With a wealth of personal experiences and musical passion as his background, Captain Highside has released his recent EP, “Chasing Alleyways.” Captain Highside, a pseudonym for Prashant Raghavendran, grew up on Indian music, film scores, and concerts, which developed further as a radio DJ in college. This fusion of interests shows in his instrumental choices and style, especially since “Chasing Alleyways” is his first step into the hip hop genre. If these tracks are any indication, his unique sound is something to be excited for.

Captain Highside has a great EP, with plans for a full album release later and a live show to come. The titular track on the EP, “Chasing Alleyways,” starts things off with a cool combination of soothing instrumental and rap. It’s somewhere between R&B and ‘90’s hip hop, so it’s got a nice bounce to it that I really enjoyed. Captain Highside followed this up with beautiful falsettos on “Let Me Breathe.” The last song on the EP, “Better,” has a consistent beat with an almost hypnotic rhythm. I liked the backing vocal that hangs over the track, too. Overall, “Chasing Alleyways” is a good indication that Captain Highside’s style is worth listening to.
