Each Measure Feature: Blueprint Tokyo
FEATURE
Blueprint Tokyo is a welcome addition to the contemporary indie rock scene. Kevin Dawson and Andrew Hale, Blueprint Tokyo’s founders, hail from Oklahoma City and are influenced by 80s and 90s greats, such as The Cars, Jimmy Eat World, AFI, and Marianas Trench. This musical foundation is what enables Blueprint Tokyo’s songwriting to come together coherently with strong hooks, atmospheric sounds, and surprisingly hopeful lyrics. They have released EPs and singles to enthusiastic critical acclaim, toured and played festivals across the United States, and even appeared on television. The most recent addition to their impressive musical discography is an EP entitled “Blue,” which was released on August 28, 2024.
“Blue” is an extremely well-produced indie pop rock EP that is reminiscent of Oasis due to its catchy rhythms and optimistic vibe. However, their instrumentation is what really sets them apart from their British musical ancestors. Each track on “Blue” is jam-packed with detail that only the best songwriters and sound engineers could work in tandem to produce. The drums are roaring and alive, the guitars have a wide range of tones to fit different emotional settings, the bass is soft yet active and groovy, and the vocals are amazingly sung and mixed throughout the EP. Audiophiles and rock fans alike are encouraged to groove to “Blue” as the summer comes to a close.
